Frankie “Dean” Nelson

Frankie “Dean” Nelson works in the community of Wichita Falls, Texas as a special needs teacher for children ages 4-5. He lives there with his wife where they enjoy his hometown favorite “red tacos” at Casa Manana. They like to spend their time at church and doing different family activities.

Last year Dean was diagnosed with COVID-19 at his local hospital. His state at the time didn’t present a threat so he was sent home to recover. His condition continued to deteriorate so he returned to the hospital and was admitted. He was eventually transferred by life flight to Vibra Hospital of Amarillo. There he saw more improvements and was transferred to Vibra Rehabilitation Hospital of Amarillo to continue his recovery.

When he first arrived at the rehab hospital, Dean was completely dependent. But with encouragement from the staff and hard work, he can now walk 500+ feet. He explained that his therapists and the nursing staff were compassionate and reassuring, going above and beyond for his recovery. “I received excellent care while here in rehabilitation. I would like to thank Dora, Nede, Chrystina, Lashane, and Datrell.”

Dean’s main motivation came from his desire to be with his family and get back home. He looks forward to continuing to improve so he can get back to his old activities with his wife. Dean is especially looking forward to his oldest daughter’s upcoming wedding.
